Day 5 - My Feet Have Fallen Off
Hi!
La Sagrada Familia Exterior
Yesterday was so busy! Oh my goodness. Josh and I walked all over the city again but this time with more destination success. We began the day visiting La Sagrada Familia. IT WAS AMAZING. This was one of those few places that actually fits the meaning of amazing/awe/incredible. The cathedral was so modern! I wasn't expecting the interior to be so mod. Gaudi was inspired by nature and light while designing the cathedral and you could totally tell. It felt like a sanctuary of architectural trees. It was so Holy. I could feel the presence of all the good and evil in the world sitting in perfect balance inside it. Wow. Just wow. If you ever have the chance to visit Barcelona, give yourself 3 hours minimum for La Sagrada Familia. The brochures say you only need and hour and a half. They lie.
La Pedrera From the Courtyard
We left La Sagrada Familia and walked to La Predrera. This building was also designed by Gaudi for a family to live in. The family lived on the top floors and rented out the lower floors. To this day, the building is still rented out as apartments. Gaudi designed so many different architectural phenomenas and yet they all have a clear touch of his style. I love him! Once we arrived to the rooftop of La Predrera, we walked around and explored. The views were beautiful and the architecture incredible. We then decided to draw.... After sketching the sculptures, we began to see a few resemblances of man-kind in the sculptures. Sometimes the best inspiration, is seen daily.
Casa Batllo is on the right
Our third Gaudi visit of the day was to Casa Batllo. We chose to just stay outside of the building. The whole exterior was covered in broken tiles. The iron work of the balconies, were incredible. I can only imagine how amazing it would be to live in a place like that. Gaudi's work is amazing but every building in Barcelona is beautifully designed. In fact, the building directly next to Casa Batllo was also outstanding. I loved the juxtaposition of the two buildings side by side.
At this point, my legs were shot. My main goal became finding a bench. After 20 minute of walking, we found an empty bench and I almost cried from joy. We sat for a while and people watched. Then we got back up, found Popsicles and continued our trek home. We changed and then went back out to dinner at an Asian place called Red Ant. I had been eyeing this place from our first day in Barcelona but it was always too crowded. We went to dinner at 8pm and were able to get a table! We have been going to dinner at 10:30pm every other day.
Today we are looking forward to gallery hopping and seeing some of Picasso's work.
Ciao,
Lilly
