Day 2 - Walking and (Wine)ing
A view of Barcelona from Parc Guell.
Good morning from Barcelona!
I am currently sitting on the couch in our apartment with all the windows open enjoying the cool breeze and listening to our neighbor who is singing Latin tunes at the top of his lungs and jumping around. I thoroughly enjoy his excited energy and his musical gift to all of us. Josh is attempted to impersonate him. I am struggling to concentrate on this blog post to be honest.
Yesterday was our first full day here and it was lovely! We walked 12 miles all over the city and saw many people and many landmarks. Our first stop was to Gaudi's La Sagria Familia which was swarming with tourists. The outside was magnificent! Way better than any picture I have ever seen. Sadly, we didn't buy tickets in advance so we couldn't go in -- we will try again later in the week. Josh and I sat on a little bench for a while and sketched. Next, we decided to go to Parc Guell. We hiked all the way across the city and up into the hills. After searching and walking for quite a while, we found it! We walked all over the park and had a great time! At one lookout, there was a man playing the most beautiful drums I have ever heard. We sat and listened for a while which was one of my favorite parts of Barcelona by far. As we started to leave, we realized we had never even gotten to the front gate of Parc Guell! So we had missed the majority of the attractions and more of Gaudi. Hahahaa. This was now the second of two we had "failed" to see. Our day was perfect though so we couldn't care less.
At lunch, we had 1€ house wine that was fabulous! We also learned the word for anchovies, as we accidentally ordered some. Neither of us are fans. The rest of our meal was delicious and we spent our time trying to decide if we looked more American or more French to passer by-ers.
On our walk home, we stumbled upon a local block. It was so full of life! There were children running all over the place playing soccer and dumping buckets of water on each other. Families and couples were eating dinner at outside cafes and everyone there was happy. Josh and I sat and enjoyed the energy. After an hour or so, we continued our walk home. It started to rain and we ran the last part. Once back, we planned today's schedule and then went to dinner. DINNER WAS SO GOOD!! We ate in a quaint little cafe that seemed very French to me. It had plates, cups and silverware plastered into the walls, great music and great food. I had gnocchi with beef and a green pepper foam sauce. For dessert, we had pistachio mousse and white chocolate ice cream that was covered in pop rocks and decorated with rose petals. Win win for team cafe.
Meneghina! Look at the cup in the wall!
After a full day out, we finally enjoyed some quiet time at home. Sleep was glorious and Josh had a very difficult time waking me up this morning.
Love from the excited travelers,
Lilly (and Josh)
