Day 7 - "I'm Happy When I Die"
The park near our home
Morning!
It's super early in Barcelona! We are heading towards our train in a few minutes for Aix En Provence. We have to take 3 trains to get there. Hopefully everything goes as planned!
Yesterday we were planning to visit Parc Guell again but they were all sold out, so we could not visit. Instead, we decided to spend the entire day in Born going in and out of shops. We found one quaint streets of hand-crafted goods. The artists would sit in the back of their shops and make bag/shoes/jewelry/etc. while selling their goods in the front of the little stores. We LOVED these. The quality was fabulous of all the work. My favorite store (called Iriarte Iriarte) was owned by a handbag designer. The bags she made were stunning! I wanted to buy one, but they were a bit over our budget.
A photo I found of the two band members who sings "I'm Happy When I Die" - they are on the right
After exploring, we sat in the large park next to our apartment and people watched. For dinner, we went to a place called Alsur Cafe. The food was excellent and the street performers were wonderful! About four different musicians played and one fire juggler, juggled hike in a unicycle. All of the musicians were awesome except one... Who was wonderful but in a different sense. A few days ago, the same very gothic and very intense duo played Spanish screamo while singing very unhappy songs at our lunch. Today, they played again during our meal. We knew all their songs and thought it was hysterical. Our favorite song was titled, "I'm Happy When I Die". We sang along to the entire song which involved only those few words and evil laughter. We found their music on YouTube if you would like to listen - https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=Y_-uFIgF_FE .
Today was a wonderful last day in Barcelona. I will miss this beautiful city and all the interesting people. Josh and I have also realized that I completely fit into the Spanish culture while he stands out like a sore thumb. Everyone we meet thinks I am from Spain and speaks to me in Spanish. When the meet Josh, they immediately speak in English. He stopped greeting people about half way through the day.
It's time to freshen up my high school years of French now.
Ciao,
Lilly
