Day 31 - Day Two In London
Big Ben
Day two in London was awesome! We started our day at a small cafe that served massive, delicious coffee and breakfast sandwiches. We then went to the park in the middle of the city and checked out Big Ben for a while. It is an amazing clock tower. Wow. There was a building called the Jewel Tower next door that we decided to visit hoping to see jewels. Sadly there were no jewels..... but the building is the only remaining part of the original castle in London. We then walked around and passed the guards museum, a sculpture of fingers, telephone booths and lots of cool storefronts.
The ceiling of the British gallery
Josh and I found many markets in the city. We went to the Soho area which was awesome and to an area called Jubilee. Both has lots of stores with great things to look at. At one market, I found a man who sold old wooden stamps. I bought a bee and an "L" along with powder that applies to the wet ink and creates an embossment. I was so excited! We headed to the British museum from there. This one was also free but asked for a $5 donation. It was mind blowing. The actual building itself was rather impressive in stature. The interior ceiling was made from all glass and had a beautiful ocean flow to it. We walked around with our mouths open for a good 3 hours taking in all the magnificent art work. I can't imagine how much the museum is worth..... They have SO MUCH work. We saw the Rosetta Stone near the end of our visit! We weren't expecting to stumble upon it so we were very excited. All of the work was truly incredible. Afterwards, we hopped over to a cartoon museum but arrived too late to go inside and just checked out their gift shop.
The carnival carousel bar
Josh and I headed to the London eye for a ride on the Ferris wheel. Before we got there, we found a carnival like place. There were lots of colorful lights, carnival food, candy, games, rides and music. This place was a carnival for adults! We sat and enjoyed it. The coolest bar I have ever seen in my life was here. It was an old carousel that had been made into a bar. The horses were still there but had been converted into tables. All the lights on the ceiling were still there in their shining glory. IT WAS AWESOME. We played a few carnival games and enjoyed being there. We never made it to the eye... Maybe tomorrow.
All the best,
