Day 20 - The Best View of Florence

Hi hi!

David

David

Today was wonderful. We ate breakfast at a small cafe next to our home. We have figured out that 3 pastries and a coffee per person is the perfect amount of breakfast. This morning, I ordered a latte and received a glass of hot milk. I've always considered a latte to be in the coffee category.... So not wanting to drink my glass of hot milk, I ordered an espresso to throw into it too. They gave me sugar with my hot milk. Is putting sugar in hot milk a normal thing here!? Hahaha.

The first stop on our agenda was to the talked about David sculpture. Our Firenze card is so great. We just go straight inside rather than waiting in giant lines. David was very impressive I must admit. He was a big slab of marble originally for sure. Josh and I both drew him. Lots of people kept taking pictures of us drawing him. Then a group of children came up and sat down with us and drew him too. They were so cute. Oh my goodness. I liked their David drawings.

Hello from the top of the Duomo

Hello from the top of the Duomo

After seeind David, we went to the Duomo. We climed up the dome so we were along the top interior close to the paintings on the ceiling. The ceiling was stunning. It pictured Heaven and Hell. Josh and I stood for 30 minutes on this tiny little path that people had to sneak past us to continue because we were both transfixed on the ceiling. Everyone kept rushing through... We were surprised more people didn't sit to appreciate the beauty.

We continued along the little path up into the interior of the dome. We climbed staircase after staircase inside the dome. Honestly, we both thought you climbed the dome to see the ceiling... so we didn't know where we were going. At the top of the stairs, was the most magnificent view of the city you could imagine. We walked the entire exterior rim of the dome looking out onto the beautiful city we have called home for this past week. Josh and I stayed up there for an hour or so just taking it all in.

Finally, we went down because we were starving. We found a beautiful outdoor cafe that looked out on a piazza with a carousel. All of a sudden, it got really dark and stormy. We thought... Uh oh. We are outside about to get our food and a large rain bath... but the cafe had the coolest system I have ever seen! They pulled glass walls out of the corners of the patio and produced a ceiling! Within seconds of the patio becoming an indoor space, it began pouring. Our food arrived and we enjoyed a fabulous, dry margarita pizza with prosciutto and enjoyed the rain.

After lunch, we walked around a bit, came home, napped for an accidental 3 hours and then woke up for a late dinner. Dinner was pleasant. Our waiter was very friendly and the food was good.

Ciao,
