Day 9 & 10 - Relaxing in Aix En Provence, France

Hello!

Flower Market in Aix

Flower Market in Aix

Its 8pm here on Sunday. Today was a rest day for us. After walking about 15 miles a day, it is very needed. Everything in Aix shuts down on Sunday. All of the business, stores and restaurants are closed. We bought food yesterday in the markets to cook today and have been eating and sleeping on and off all day. Glorious if you ask me.

Yesterday was a beautiful day! Saturday's in Aix are the best days. The whole town turns into a giant market of fresh vegetables, fruit, meats, cheeses, breads along with cloths, soaps, flowers, you name it. Our first stop was the flower market. Beautiful bouquets of live flowers lined the streets. The colors and smells were fantastic. I was in flower heaven. We talked to a few different shops about their flowers and everyone was extremely nice. They said this was actually a smaller flower market than normal because of the hot weather. We thought there were still plenty of flowers!

Next, we stopped by the vegetable market to get food for today's breakfast and dinner. Everything was so inexpensive! My goodness! Our big bag of veggies was 6€. I wish it was that way all over the world! All the food was so fresh. We had to fight the urge to eat it immediately. We came back to our apartment, dropped everything off in our tiny fridge, took a break to read and then went back out to the markets.

We looked at many clothing shops! One of the shops we stopped in, we met a lady named Matlida. She was young and super nice. She had studied in the States a few years back and had great English. She was home for the summer from China where she is living now teaching ESL. I have always wanted to do the program and we began chatting away. She gave us some great first hand advice on the program! Hopefully one day, we will be able to teach in an Asian country.

We then attempted to go to a nice restaurant for dinner but failed because all the restaurants were booked up. We finally found a small sushi place that had a space for dinner. It was so good! Probably the best sushi I have ever had. Yum! Yum! I had been craving Asian food anyways, so it was the perfect fit. Josh and I enjoyed a nice dinner and then headed home.

I have really enjoyed our more relaxed days just casually walking the city and taking our time. Very needed.

All the best,
